Personal Statement
Prof. Luqman Lekan Adedeji is a Professor of Islamic Studies Education and the current Head of the Department of Arts Education, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos since 1st August 2024 to date. A seasoned academic and administrator, he has dedicated his career to the advancement of religious education, pedagogical innovation, and the promotion of ethical values through scholarly inquiry.
With decades of experience in the Nigerian university system, Prof. Adedeji has served the University of Lagos in numerous capacities. As the HOD of Arts Education, he oversees the strategic and academic direction of the department’s three units: Language, Religion, and History. His leadership is defined by a commitment to academic integrity, staff development, and the holistic success of students within the Faculty of Education.
Prof. Adedeji’s research is at the forefront of Islamic Studies Education, with a particular interest in:
- Pedagogical Approaches to Islamic Studies: Developing effective methods for teaching Islamic studies in a contemporary, multicultural society.
- Curriculum Development: Designing robust frameworks for religious education that balance tradition with modern educational needs.
- Ethics and Character Education: Exploring the role of religious instruction in building national integrity and social harmony.
- Islamic History and Culture: Analyzing the historical evolution of Islamic thought and its impact on modern education.
He is a widely published author whose works appear in reputable local and international journals. His contributions to the field extend beyond the classroom, as he frequently serves as a consultant on religious education curriculum and a resource person for national educational bodies.
