Personal Statement
Dr. Veronica Iyalekhue Abusomwan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Science and Technology Education (now Technology and Vocational Education), Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Nigeria, specialising in Home Management, Hospitality, and Entrepreneurship in Home Economics. She holds a Ph.D. in Home Economics Education (2016), an M.Ed. in Home Economics Education (2010), and a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics (2003), all from the University of Benin, Benin City, as well as a National Certificate of Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Benin City (1995). Prior to her current appointment, she served as a Lecturer at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ikorodu Campus (2005–2009), an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Benin (2008–2012), Deputy Coordinator at LiviconVocational Institute, Lagos (2008–2012), and has been a Facilitator and Research Project Supervisor at the National Open University of Nigeria since 2012. Her research interests encompass entrepreneurship and sustainable household income generation, food hygiene, poverty alleviation strategies, home economics curriculum development, and hospitality education. She has published widely in both national and international peer-reviewed journals — including the International Journal of Learning, Teaching and Educational Research and the Journal of Pedagogical Thought (Kampala International University, Tanzania) — and has presented papers at international conferences in the United States (Fort Myers, Florida, 2022), Indonesia (2021), Ghana (2017), and South Africa (2018). She is an active member of ten learned societies, including the South African Association of Family Ecology and Consumer Science (SAAFECS), the Ghana Home Economics Association (GHEA), the Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON), and the Association of Vocational and Technical Educators of Nigeria (AVTEN), and has supervised over 60 undergraduate students, 12 Master’s students, and is currently supervising 2 MPhil and 2 Ph.D. candidates at the University of Lagos.
