Personal Statement

Dr. Oluwaleyimu Olufunke Opeyemi is a Lecturer I in the Department of Technology and Vocational Education, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Nigeria, where she has served since 2011, specialising in Clothing and Textiles, Garment Making, Textile Designing, Child Development, and Food and Nutrition.

She holds a Ph.D. in Home Economics Education — Clothing and Textiles (2018) and an M.Sc.Ed. in Home Economics Education — Clothing and Textiles (2009), both from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a B.Sc.Ed. in Home Economics Education from Delta State University, Abraka (1998), and an NCE in Home Economics Education from the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti (1985).

 

Prior to her full-time appointment at the University of Lagos, she served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka/Yaba College of Technology Annex (2010–2011) and as a Part-time Lecturer at the University of Lagos (2010–2011).

She has authored two books — a cookery textbook for secondary schools and catering institutions (2021) and a guide on infancy and childhood problems (2013), both published by BarbeetyProductions — and has published over 22 articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal of Home Economics, the Asian Journal of Vocational Education and Humanities, and the American Journal of Strategic Leadership, as well as conference proceedings from INTED2020 in Valencia, Spain and an international multidisciplinary conference in Ghana.

 

She has presented papers at several national and international conferences, including the HECON/IFHE Conference at the University of Uyo(2017) and the HERAN Annual International Conferences. She currently serves as Chief Examiner and Resource Person for Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition, and Garment Making for the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and is an active member of eight professional associations, including the International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE), the Home Economics Research Association of Nigeria (HERAN), the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN), and the Textile Researchers Association of Nigeria (TRAN), having supervised over 40 undergraduate students at the University of Lagos.
