Personal Statement

Associate Professor Janet Omojola Okebiorun

Associate Professor Janet Omojola Okebiorun is a distinguished scholar in Manpower Training and Development Education in the Department of Adult Education, University of Lagos. She holds a B.Sc. (Ed.) in Economics from Lagos State University and earned both her M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Lagos.

With over 33 years of teaching experience, Associate Professor Okebiorun has made significant contributions to adult education, workforce development, and manpower training. She is currently supervising 12 Ph.D. candidates and has authored more than 46 publications in reputable local and international journals.

She is a recipient of the Erasmus+ KA171 Scholarship and a grant of 3,000, and was a Fellow of the Department of Adult Education and Comparative Studies at University of Wrzburg. Within the University of Lagos, she has served in several administrative capacities, including Departmental Coordinator and Board Member of the School of Postgraduate Studies, as well as a member of numerous university and faculty committees.

Beyond academia, she has contributed extensively to policy advocacy, capacity building, consultancy, and staff development programmes for organizations such as the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Agency for Mass Education, Integrated Total Control System (ITCS), ARIBORN Group of Companies, and Darkol Publishers.

Associate Professor Okebiorun is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Canadian Association of African Studies, Female Academic Network for Africa Research and International Collaboration, Nigerian National Council for Adult Education, and the Nigerian Association of University Women.

A respected researcher and conference presenter, she has received Best Paper Awards at the 2nd and 3rd ARUA Centre of Excellence International Conferences hosted by the University of Cape Town and University of Nairobi in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

In service to national development, she served as a Collation Officer during Nigerias 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023 general elections and as a facilitator and supervisor during the 2006 Population and Housing Census.

Her academic excellence, professional engagement, and commitment to human capital development continue to make her a leading figure in adult education and manpower development in Nigeria.
