Personal Statement

Oyeyemi Aitokhuehi started her career at an advertising firm, worked at a bank, and later moved to the education sector. She is presently an Associate Professor of Continuing Education and Workforce Development in the Department of Adult Education. Her research interests include Continuing Education, Workforce Development, Programme Planning, Research, and Statistics at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. A researcher and an Adult Educator, she graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1991 with a B.Sc. Zoology and possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Lagos in 2006; she obtained a master’s degree in Adult Education in 2008 and a PhD in Adult Education in 2014. She possesses the Training of Trainers (TOT) certificate for the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management and the Training of Trainers (TOT) for the FIATA Higher Diploma in Supply Chain Management.

Oyeyemi had her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Texas Southern University in Houston, USA, from 2015 to 2016. She has taught in the Department of Adult Education since 2010 and has supervised 65 undergraduate projects, 28 postgraduate projects, and 2 PhD candidates; several others are ongoing. She is presently the department’s Seminar Coordinator. She served as the Department of Adult Education Assistant Examination Officer from 2010 to 2014, the Departmental Examination Officer from 2016 to 2023, Secretary to the Department of Adult Education Academic meetings from 2010 to 2014 and the Faculty of Education GST Coordinator from 2017 to 2023. She is a facilitator at the Institute of Maritime Studies, University of Lagos, from 2019 to Date.

Oyeyemi is a recipient of the Erasmus+ KA171 Scholarship and Grant, worth over 3,000 euros, an international award that enabled her to travel to the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg in Germany. Her participation in the Adult Education Academy expanded her exposure to comparative Adult Education systems across Europe, Africa, and Asia. The benefits include new global collaborative relationships, stronger research outputs and academic prestige, to mention a few. In 2021, she was a Co-investigator on an international grant of 2000 Euros from the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), Academic Pharmacy Section (AcPS) Award for COVID-19 grant scheme. The title of the project wasPsychological Impact of COVID-19 on the Mental Health of Staff and Students in the Faculties of Pharmacy and Education at Two Universities in Nigeria: the University of Lagos and the University of Jos. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, both internationally and nationally. She has authored chapters in refereed books. She is a co-editor of a book titled Contemporary Issues in Education and Learning, published by the University of Lagos Press and Bookshop Ltd. She serves on the Editorial Boards of distinguished journals and reviews for other journals nationally and internationally. She is a member of the Nigerian National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE) and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
