Head of Department - Prof. Lukman Lekan ADEDEJI
Professor Luqman Lekan Adedeji is a distinguished scholar in Islamic Studies, Curriculum and Instruction, and Research and Development. With a career spanning over four decades in the Nigerian educational sector, he currently serves as a Professor and the Head of Department (Arts Education) at the University of Lagos.
Academic Profile
Professor Adedeji holds a Ph.D. from the University of Lagos (2007). Appointed as Peace Ambassador by HWPL, South Korea in 2023, and Vaccination Ambassador by the First Lady of Lagos State in 2025. and recently advanced his expertise with specialized certifications in Islamic Revealed Knowledge, Islamic Economics, and Fiqh from the International Islamic University, Malaysia (2022). His research focuses on integrating Islamic perspectives into contemporary social issues, including early childhood care, judicial growth, and mental health within higher education.
Professional Leadership & Experience
Throughout his tenure at the University of Lagos, Professor Adedeji has held several vital administrative positions:
• HOD, Arts Education ( 1st August 2024 – Date)
• Sub-Dean, Faculty of Education (2014–2016).
• Chairman, Faculty of Education Teaching Practice Committee (2022–Date).
• Coordinator, Teaching Practice and Practicum (2011–2014).
• Chairman, Departmental Admissions and Examinations Committees.
Beyond the university, he has served as the National General Secretary of the NASFAT Society and played a foundational role as Secretary for the Planning and Implementation Committee of Fountain University, Osogbo.
Research & Supervision
A prolific author, Professor Adedeji has published extensively in national and international journals on topics ranging from ICT in religious education to Islamic ethics and societal values. He has supervised over 400 undergraduate students and numerous postgraduate scholars, including successfully guiding several Ph.D. candidates to completion.
