Specialisation GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING

Personal Statement

I am a dedicated counsellor and an Associate Professor of Counselling Psychology with a strong passion for delivering Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP), offering counselling, psychotherapy, and mental health services to individuals—particularly within workplace settings and business environments across all scales, beyond the traditional educational context. My professional focus is on designing and continually updating intervention modules aimed at promoting awareness, assessment, and effective use of workplace counselling, psychotherapy, and mental health services throughout Nigeria’s diverse work and business sectors. I employ a variety of therapeutic approaches, including solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, and person-centred methods, often in partnership with counselling organizations both within Nigeria and internationally. I have actively contributed to professional development through training programmes, seminars, and webinars in collaboration with bodies such as the International Council for Education, Research and Training (ICERT), the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapies in Africa (ACPA), and the Family Outreach Ministry Cameroon (FOMCAM), Community and Mental Health Organization. With a deep commitment to reducing—and ultimately eliminating—mental health challenges in society, I am passionate about mentoring the next generation of professional counsellors. My overarching vision is to help build a society where quality mental health care, counselling, and psychotherapy are readily accessible to all.
