Personal Statement

Professor Cecilia Olubunmi Oladapo is a Professor of Adult Education in the Department of Adult Education, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos. She holds a B.A. (Ed.) in Christian Religious Studies with Second Class Upper honours from the University of Ife (1984/85), an M.Ed. in Adult Education from the University of Lagos (1987/88), and a Ph.D. in Adult Education, also from the University of Lagos (1996/97). She joined the University of Lagos in August 1995 as an Assistant Lecturer and has served continuously ever since, rising through the ranks to become a full Professor in October 2011. Her areas of teaching and scholarly specialisation span a broad curriculum within adult education, including Literacy Education, Guidance and Counselling in Adult Education, Economics of Adult Education, Programme Design, Community Development and Youth Organisation, and Adult Education Policies in Post-Independent West Africa.

Professor Oladapo’s research interests centre on ageing and the psychosocial dimensions of care for older adults in Nigeria, as reflected in her ongoing project on Caring for the Aged in Nigeria: A Psycho-Socio Cultural Analysis. With over three decades of teaching experience at the University of Lagos — where she has taught at the levels of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor — she remains a dedicated scholar and educator whose work continues to shape the study of adult learning, gerontology, and community education in Nigeria.
