Personal Statement
Dr Eileen Akintemi obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Microbiology in 2007 from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Nigeria, a Postgraduate Diploma in Teacher Education in 2011 from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Master of Education (MEd) degree in Early Childhood Education in 2014 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Early Childhood Education from the same institution.
She began her academic career at the Department of Teacher Education/Early Childhood and Educational Foundations, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, from 2016 to 2021, where she worked as a teaching/research assistant and adjunct lecturer.
She also worked as Assistant Education Officer with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR, Ogoja Sub-office Nigeria from 2021 to 2025 where she led and coordinated the implementation of all UNHCR’s Education Programmes in Nigeria aimed at ensuring that Forcibly Displaced Person’s have access to national education systems and she also supported the implementation of UNHCR’s child protection programmes in Nigeria aimed at ensuring Forcibly Displaced children and youths are protected from harm, abuse, exploitation and violence. Some of her major achievements at the UNHCR Nigeria includes successful resource mobilisation for the education of refugee children such as Educate a Child (EAC) project that targeted out-of-school refugee school aged-children in Nigeria , connected digital education project for primary school pupils across 3 refugee hosting States (Benue, Cross River and Taraba) in Nigeria and she played a key role in a joint proposal with Save the Children International, securing the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Accelerated Funding for refugee education in 2024.
She also facilitated capacity building activities, advocacy and stakeholder meetings in the field of education and child protection for UNHCR staff, partners and relevant government line ministries to strengthen partnerships, improve refugee access to education and enhanced programme delivery and educational quality

Contributions to knowledge
Dr Akintemi has publications in journals of international repute and is a member of professional bodies relevant to Early Childhood Education, such as the Early Childhood Association of Nigeria (ECAN), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Africa Early Childhood Network (AFECN), Childhood Education International (CEI), Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE).
She is also a recipient of the University of Ibadan Postgraduate School Research Assistantship Award in 2016 and the Africa Early Childhood Network (AFECN) Fellowship in 2017. Her research interest covers science in Early Childhood Education, indigenous knowledge in Early Childhood Education, Education in Emergencies, connected digital learning and child protection.
