Personal Statement

Dr. Oyekunle Yinusa is an accomplished Nigerian scholar and educator in the field of Adult and Lifelong Education, with a research trajectory that bridges entrepreneurship education, employability, and lifelong learning. From the onset of his career, Dr. Yinusa has maintained a consistent focus on empowering adult learners and young adults through innovative pedagogies, vocational education, and strategic manpower development. His experience includes both teaching and curriculum innovation, notably in entrepreneurship education, and spans institutional collaborations, national reform dialogues, and community literacy interventions.

His research portfolio is enriched by national and international engagements, including an exchange programme at Julius-Maximilian University of Würzburg, Germany, and collaborative publications comparing employability education models across Nigeria, Italy, and Palestine. As a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, such as the VICBHE Professor Emeritus Peter Akinsola Okebukola Prize (2024), DAAD scholarships, and multiple Best Paper Awards from ARUA conferences, Dr. Yinusa has demonstrated academic excellence and policy-relevant impact. He is also part of a 5,000-euro research grant funded by the German Research Foundation.

He is a leadership trainer certified in the Higher Education Leadership Improvement Program at the Leadership Institute for Tomorrow (LIFT), Cal State Fullerton, USA. Over the past two years, Dr. Yinusa and his team have successfully trained over 700 individuals on leadership, entrepreneurship and mindset change programs, all aiming to create viable businesses and generate meaningful employment opportunities to address the pressing issue of unemployment and leadership in Nigeria and throughout Africa.

Dr. Yinusa’s influence extends beyond academia into practice and policy. He is a fellow of the Institute of Educational Leadership Practitioners of Nigeria (FIELP), a member of the Ife Institute of Advanced Studies, and an active member of scholarly networks such as the Adult Education Academy (Germany), ARUA Centre of Excellence for Unemployment and Skills Development, and the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council. His work with local and international agencies reflects his commitment to leadership and community-engaged scholarship, notably in projects addressing youth unemployment, literacy development, and sustainable livelihoods. He is currently the Deputy Coordinator of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos
