Personal Statement

Prof Bakare is a graduate of the University of Ife – B.Ed (English – 1978) and the University of Lagos, M.Ed and Ph.D in 1990 and 1998 respectively. She also has a Diploma in Computing (1995), a Diploma in Real Estate (USA, 2002) and is a certified Hospitality Trainer (USA, 2012) among others. She has been in the teaching profession for over 35 years.  She is interested in the dynamics of adult learning, empowerment and lifelong learning; developing methods as a tool to aid efficient and effective adult education delivery in order to enhance the practice and human development.  

Her researches have contributed immensely to the area of adult education methods, especially with regard to its theories, use, vastness and repercussions of inappropriate method selection; also on the necessity to eschew technophobia and get adult education into the current century in all its ramifications.  She is passionate about how adults learn and has facilitated the signature of a departmental MOU with a German University for staff and student exchange.

Has worked in literacy programmes and with adult learners andragogically in different situations
Published over 80 articles in local and international Journals of repute, and written several books on adult teaching methods, among others
She has attended many conferences nationally and internationally and presented papers
Served as the Head of Department (Adult Education), Deputy Director of the Institute of Continuing Education, and Warden of a Post Graduate Hall of Residence.  She was also an elected member of the University Senate
She has graduated 11 Ph.Ds, over 60 Masters students and supervised numerous   undergraduate projects
She has won several awards including 2 grants.
 

She is a member of the Nigerian National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and the Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA).   As a seasoned adult educator and resource person, she has worked extensively in the field for several decades and served as a Consultant both locally and with foreign collaborators.  She has also served as an examiner and assessor in several universities.    

Attending numerous conferences both nationally and internationally has afforded her the opportunity to interact and network with colleagues in the field. Bakare volunteers her services in Little Saints Orphanage. She enjoys Sudoku, Travelling, Music, Theatre and Reading.
