Personal Statement
Perpetua Iheoma Ememe is a Professor of Peace Education and Community Development Social Works Education in the Adult Education, University of Lagos. She joined the Department of Adult Education in 2010. She has held many administrative roles in different capacities in the University. For instance, she is a member of University of Lagos Senate from 2022 to date, three time elected Senate Member and Member, Board of School of Postgraduate Studies. She also serves on the University Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Committee, Chairman Department of Adult Education Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Committeee and Research Innovation Committee. She has been the Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator from 2016 to 2024. She has also served as member of various Faculty and Departmental Administrative Committees among others. Professor Perpetua Ememe has successfully supervised eight PhD students, over 60 Masters students and various PGDE and Undergraduate students. She is a researcher of repute and has published over forty peer-reviewed papers in reputable national and international journals Her research interest spans Peace Education, Community Development, Rural Development and Research Methodology. Her research teams won the 2008 Education Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) Research Grant and 2009 University of Lagos Central Research Council (CRC) Grant respectively. She served as a rapporteur at the 2016 University of Lagos Annual Research Conference and Fair. Professor Ememe has participated in professional development programmes on Planning a Family and Intergenerational Literacy and Learning Programme (FILL) by UNESCO Institute of Lifelong Learning;Pedagogical Leadership in Africa, Multi-Method and Policy-Oriented Research (Advanced Research Design) and Impact Evaluation by Partnership for African Social; Contemporary Issues in Adult Education from Nigeria and German Perspectives by Professorship for Adult and Continuing Education International.
She is an active member of Nigerian National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Association for Sustainable Development and Communities Integration of Nigeria (ASDCIN), and Education Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) among others. She served as a teacher-mentor at the Scorpiosis Centre for Leaderships Project Make Every Teacher a Leader (Project METAL) and Director at Joy Bringers, a Non- governmental Organization involved in re-characterising correctional centres inmates.
