Personal Statement
Dr. Ojeomogha Tawakalitu Oluwakemi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Adult Education, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State, Nigeria, with a specialization in Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education. She is an accomplished educator, researcher, mentor, academic administrator, and community development practitioner whose career spans over three decades of impactful service in education, research, vocational development, entrepreneurship
empowerment and university administration.
Dr. Ojeomogha obtained a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree in Business Education from the University of Nigeria in 1998. She subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Adult Education from the University of Lagos in 2003 and later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Adult Education from the same institution in 2015. Her academic training has provided a strong foundation for her contributions to adult learning, vocational education, entrepreneurship development, workforce empowerment, and lifelong learning.
Before joining the University of Lagos as a lecturer, Dr. Ojeomogha served as a Business Studies teacher at the University of Lagos International School, Akoka, where she taught for 17 years and contributed significantly to the development of secondary school education. As an experienced academic supervisor, Dr. Ojeomogha has successfully supervised over 90 undergraduate research projects and more than 35 postgraduate dissertations and theses, mentoring emerging scholars, educators, and researchers while fostering academic excellence and professional growth.
Her research interests include Vocational Education, Entrepreneurship Education, Adult and Lifelong Learning, Informal Sector Development, Skills Acquisition, Workforce Development, Digital Skills Integration, and Sustainable Community Empowerment. A significant proportion of her research focuses on artisans in Nigeria, examining strategies for skills development,entrepreneurship training, digital inclusion, capacity building, economic empowerment, and productivity enhancement within the informal sector. Her scholarly contributions have generated evidence-based recommendations for policy formulation and sustainable national development. Dr. Ojeomogha has published more than 32 scholarly articles in reputable national andinternational journals and serves as a reviewer for academic journals, contributing to the promotion of research quality and scholarly excellence. Her outstanding academic contributions have earned her several prestigious awards and honours. These include the Best Paper Presentation Award at the Adult Education Academic Programme under the Erasmus+ KA171 Programme at Julius-Maximilians University, Wrzburg, Germany
(2026); the Most Outstanding Student Award of the RCCG School of Disciples, Lagos State (2025/2026 Session); the Most Outstanding Lecturer Award of the Department of Adult Education, University of Lagos (2016–2024); the Meritorious Award of Best Course Adviser (2017); the Award of Merit for Excellence in Teaching Practice Supervision by the Faculty of
Education, University of Lagos (2019/2020); and the Amazon of Distinction Achievers; Award in recognition of academic excellence following the successful completion of her Ph.D. programme (2015).
Dr. Ojeomogha has also distinguished herself through competitive grants and international fellowships. She is an Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Fellow at Julius-Maximilians University, Wrzburg, Germany (2026), where she participated in professional development and international academic exchange. She is also a recipient of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)/Institution-Based Research (IBR) Grant (2025), supporting innovative research and knowledge generation in adult and vocational education.
Beyond her university responsibilities, Dr. Ojeomogha has rendered valuable professional services in various capacities. She has served as a Returning Officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demonstrating commitment to electoral integrity anddemocratic governance. She is also a Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Consultant, providing expertise in skills development, entrepreneurship promotion, workforce empowerment, and community capacity building.
Additionally, she has served as a consultant to Minaz Nursery, Primary and College and is a member of the Board of Directors of Danbath Technical and Vocational Schools, where she contributes to educational leadership, policy development, institutional governance, and strategic
growth.
Dr. Ojeomogha has collaborated extensively with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations, and government agencies on programmes designed to empower artisans, women, youths, and vulnerable groups while strengthening the informal sector in Nigeria. Through training, advocacy, research, and capacity-building initiatives, she has contributed significantly to improving livelihoods, entrepreneurial competencies, employability, and sustainable economic opportunities.
She is an active member of the National Council for Adult Education and the Association of Business Educators of Nigeria. Through these professional associations, she participates in scholarly collaborations, conferences, policy dialogues, curriculum development initiatives, andresearch aimed at advancing education and national development.
A passionate advocate for lifelong learning, entrepreneurship, vocational empowerment, digital skills development, and sustainable community transformation, Dr. Ojeomogha remains committed to promoting skills acquisition, mentoring future generations, empowering artisans and vulnerable populations, advancing impactful research, and contributing to national and global development. Her distinguished contributions to teaching, research, academic leadership, professional service, and community engagement continue to make a significant impact within
academia and society.
