Personal Statement
Dr. (Mrs.) Olubukola Olutosin Akanni is an accomplished evaluator, researcher, and Associate Professor of Measurement and Evaluation with a strong passion for educational measurement, psychometric research, programme evaluation, and technology-driven innovations in assessment.
With over three decades of teaching experience across various levels of the educational system and more than fifteen years of specialization in Educational Measurement and Evaluation, Programme Evaluation, and Standardized Testing, Dr. Akanni has made significant contributions to academia, research, and professional practice. Her areas of expertise include business and workforce measurement, technology-enhanced assessment, automated scoring using Artificial Intelligence (AI), learning analytics, data-driven decision-making, and gamified assessment methods aimed at improving educational outcomes.
Dr. Akanni is the author of a book on Programme Evaluation and Applied Psychometrics and co-author of the textbook Test Administration for Teachers and Psychologists. She has published over fifty –five (55) scholarly articles in reputable national and international journals.
In addition, she has successfully supervised more than one hundred (100) Postgraduate students and over two hundred (200) undergraduate research projects and currently supervising fourteen (14) doctoral students.Her professional interests focus on the design, construction, administration, and evaluation of standardized assessments, as well as the development of tests with sound psychometric properties.
Her research addresses critical issues in standardized testing, continuous assessment, teachers’ competencies in test construction, and the integration of technology and Artificial Intelligence into teaching, learning, and assessment practices. She is particularly committed to promoting fairness, equity, and quality assurance in educational assessment through the responsible use of data and evidence-based practices.
Dr. Akanni is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Association of Evaluators (NAE), the Nigerian Society of Educational Psychologists (NISEP), the Association of Educational Evaluators and Researchers of Nigeria (ASSEREN), the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), and the International Institute for Policy Review and Development Strategies (IIPRDS).
Beyond her teaching and research responsibilities, she provides academic leadership, mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on large-scale research projects.
She has also contributed extensively to capacity building and professional development through workshops, seminars, conferences, and webinars organized by institutions and organizations such as the International Council for Education, Research and Training (ICERT) and IIPRDS.Dr. Akanni has served as an External Centre Supervisor for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) examinations at several institutions, including Hallmark University, Ijebu-Itele (2024), Koladaisi University, Ibadan (2022), and Osun State University (2020).She is happily married and blessed with children.
