Our Vision
The Department of Social Sciences Education aims at providing quality education for teachers of basic, secondary and tertiary education through varied and comprehensive exposure to foundation, pedagogy and content courses and also to provide capacity building for other sectors of the economy.
Our Mission
To provide the functional training of a professional workforce through learning and research as well as in character and service which add life-long value to quality education for all who seek knowledge.
The Social Sciences Education Department
The Department of Social Sciences Education (formerly part of the Department of Social Sciences Education) is located in the Faculty of Education of the University of Lagos. The Department is within the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos and has been engaged in the training of teachers (pre-service and in-service) through teaching and research in different academic programmes. Its programmes are designed to assist students realize their full potential by empowering them with information, leadership skills and tools necessary to effectively engage in transforming lives, communities and eventually the nation. The Department currently runs five (5) postgraduate degree awarding courses in Education. The first Head of Department was Professor W.L. Oluwatosin (2022-2023). Professor Oludola Sarah Sopekan is the current Head of Department of Social Sciences Education.
